#IGPPExpertTalks

An initiative of the IGPP, #IGPPExpertTalks aims to connect the wider public to the issues of public policy and governance. The changed environs, today, call for an approach away from the top-down policy formulations and true challenges of public policy and governance in India can only be understood if, one, the masses are better able to under the rationale behind the government’s policies and better able to understand their implications. Two, for the purpose of better formulation of policies, it is indispensable that once the public is enabled to understand policies, they are also able to articulate the challenges posed or solved by such policies, for it is the common public that has to live with policies formulated by the government.

With this objective in mind, #IGPPExpertTalks, is envisioned as an interactive platform where through engagements with various stakeholders like academicians, civil society, government functionaries, industry leaders, international domain experts, policymakers and policy practitioners, the various issues being faced by the society at large, whether they are economic, political, cultural or others are discussed in a simple, lucid and concise manner and an awareness is aimed to be created as to how various stakeholders can contribute to find creative solutions to issues that plague our society. The effort is to find solutions and engage into dialogue in value-neutral and constructive manner so that a positive vision of the society may be reaffirmed.

Coinciding with recently concluded COP-27, IGPP organised an international conference, in collaboration with CSSS, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Justus Liebig University, Giessen and German Research Foundation, Germany at JNU, New Delhi. The conference, “Environmental Policy Discourses since the 1960s: Politics, Problems and Narratives of Environmental Policies in Europe and Asia”, is an attempt to bridge narratives and enquire into the discourses of environmental policies that have governed Europe and Asia since the 1960s.

The conference brought together academicians, experts, policy makers and researchers from across the world to talk about environmental problems that currently plague this world. As the participants gathered from world over and were domain experts in number of various fields, apart from environment, Expert Talks sat down with them to discuss issues of:

1. Global politics, particularly Europe’s energy crisis and the rise of fundamentalism across the globe (conversations with Prof. Alemann and Prof. Detlef Briesen)

2. Digitalization, media and democracy (conversations with Prof. Baurmann and Dr. Hang)

3. Climate change and policy formulations (conversations with Prof. Anh and Prof. Anand Kumar)

4. Islam, women and Southeast Asian politics (conversations with Ms. Ririn, Dr. Ziegenhain, Prof. Yasmin, Dr. Ho Thi Thanh).

These conversations are the first in series, with many more coming soon to provide audiences a change to engage with matters of public policy with experts from across the world.
