Institute for Governance, Policies and Politics (IGPP) and Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi with support from AI Knowledge Consortium (AIKC), New Delhi are organising a policy hackathon. This Policy Hackathon will allow participants to participate and brainstorm solutions for policy challenges for the platform economy and bridge the disconnect among various stakeholders.

Objectives

Opportunities in Platform Economy

Showcase success stories of businesses expanding beyond India, highlighting opportunities in platform economy.

Provide Innovative and Creative Policy Insights

Identify areas where government policies can support the platform economy and drive innovation.

Promote Collaboration

Facilitate dialogue among diverse stakeholders to bridge the gap between policy and practice.

Participants

The Policy Hackathon is open to students only in Delhi NCR, India. Participants should be. 

• Students currently enrolled or completed three-year or five-year law programs e.g. BA LLB.
• Students pursuing/ pursued Master’s degree in law, public policy, management, economics, computer science or any other relevant course.
• Final year BTech student from IIT Delhi and other central universities based in New Delhi.

Structure of the Program

Individual or Group Participation:

  • Participants may join individually or in groups of up to five members.
  • Open to students from diverse fields, including law, public policy economics, technology, and other relevant domains.

    Registration Process

  • Team leaders or individuals must register to access the application form on the website of IGPP.

    Application and Initial Draft Submission:

  • After registration, participants are required to submit a detailed application form.
  • The application form will include an option to select a theme of interest.
  • Participants must submit a brief draft policy solution addressing one of the chosen challenges (Word limit – 500 words).
  • The submission should be between 1500-3000 words, outlining a proposed solution, challenges, and objectives.

Participant Selection:

  • Based on the submitted application forms and draft policy briefs, 8-10 participants will be selected for the next stage.

  • Selected participants will be informed within 10 days after the registration period ends.


    Proposal Development:

  • Participants will develop comprehensive policy pitch, covering:       
                  – Problem Analysis: Define the issue at hand. 
                  – Proposed Interventions: Suggest feasible policy solutions.
                  – Feasibility Studies: Assess the practicality of the solution.
                  – Impact Assessment: Predict potential outcomes and benefits for diverse stakeholders.
  • Submission of Full Policy Pitch: Selected participants must submit a complete policy proposal by 07 February 2025 after receiving the selection email.

    Pitch Preparation:

  • Participants will prepare a clear and compelling pitch to present their policy pitch to the judging panel.

Final Event at IIT Delhi:

  • The final event will take place at IIT Delhi.


    Presentation Format:

  • Each participant or team will present their solution in 8-10-minute pitch.
  • Presentations should cover the problem, proposed solutions, feasibility, and impact.


    Judging Criteria:

  • Originality and uniqueness of the solution.
  • Practicality of implementation and scalability of the solution.
  • Adherence to ethical standards and alignment with existing regulations.
  • The likely effectiveness and broad impact on stakeholders.

Documentation and Issue Brief:

  • All final policy solutions will be compiled into a comprehensive report. This report will be shared with stakeholders and policymakers for further consideration.


    Stakeholder Engagement:

  • The compiled solutions will be presented to government bodies, think tanks, advocacy groups, and relevant organisations to explore avenues for real-world implementation.

Awards

Winners of each problem statement will be honored with AIKC fellowship and will receive a one-time grant of  Rs. 40,000/- further to develop their proposal into a full issue brief.

Additionally, each winner will gain exclusive networking opportunities at future AIKC events.

Guidelines for Written Submission

Points to Remember:

  • Provide a concise title.
  • Summarize your arguments.
  • Create a title page: include title, authors, affiliations, and contact details.
  • Provide an introduction/background.
  • Policy objectives.
  • Outline methods/processes: evidence, rationale, expert input, and context.
  • Develop the main body: use subheadings for clarity. This section should include a policy proposal and implementation plan.
  • Conclude your paper.
  • Cite all references used.


    Word Count:

  • Adhere to the specified word limit of 1500-3000 words for the proposal to ensure clarity and focus.


    Formatting Requirements:

  • Use a standard font size of 12-point, Times New Roman with double spacing, and 1-inch margins.
  • Include page numbers and appropriate headings/subheadings.

    File Format:
  • Submit the document in a PDF or Word.


    Originality:

  • Ensure the policy proposal is original, not previously published, and free from plagiarism.
